Mass Spectroscopy
•The height of the peak will give the relative concentration of the ions present.
•The highest peak is known as the base peak and is assigned an intensity of 100%. •The intensities of the other peaks are measured relative to the base peak. •The mass spectrum is unique to the compound and can be used to identify a substance by comparing it to a data bank of known spectrums. •The peak with the greatest mass will generally give the relative atomic mass of the molecule. |
